PHILIPPINE EMBASSY IN AMMAN HOSTS PHILIPPINE OVERSEAS LABOR OFFICE OUTREACH PROGRAM
In line with the third pillar of Philippine foreign
policy, which is assistance to Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs), the
Philippine Embassy in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan hosted on 3
September 2004 the second series of outreach programs by the Tel Aviv based
Philippine Overseas Labor Office (POLO) to promote various government
welfare facilities available to OFWs.
Around 200 OFWs visited the Philippine Embassy in Amman to attend the
briefing made by Welfare Officer Albert Q. Valenciano and to register
for voluntary membership with the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration
(OWWA).
During the briefing, according to Philippine Ambassador to Jordan
Ruperto M. Dizon, the OFWs voiced out their clamor for the establishment of
a POLO in Amman to facilitate the processing of employment contracts
and their participation in the various Philippine government support
programs for OFWs. Jordan is currently under the jurisdiction of POLO Tel
Aviv pending the opening of a POLO in Amman.
