PHILIPPINE CONSULATE GENERAL IN HONG KONG GOES ON AIR
Secretary of Foreign Affairs Alberto G. Romulo
congratulated the Philippine Consulate General in the Special
Administrative Region of Hong Kong for successfully launching a 30-minute weekly
segment in the radio program "Good Evening, Kabayan" broadcast live in
Hong Kong and Macau every Friday from 9 to 11 PM over Hong Kong Commercial
Radio. The Special Administrative Regions of Hong Kong and Macau are
both under the jurisdiction of the Philippine consulate in Hong Kong.
The Philippine Consulate’s radio segment is divided into two portions.
The first is "PCG Updates" featuring the latest news from the
Philippine Consulate, developments in the Philippines and information about
major events involving the Filipino communities in Hong Kong and Macau.
The second portion entitled "Konsulado, Katulong Mo" aims to inform the
Filipino community about the different services available at the
Consulate and how they can avail of the Philippine Government's assistance on
different matters.
The radio segment is anchored by Consulate officers, staff and
representatives from attached agencies such as the Department of Trade and
Industry, Department of Labor and Employment, Department of Tourism, the
Social Security System, PAG-IBIG Housing, and the Overseas Workers
Welfare Administration. Aside from discussing Consulate services and
projects, the program also gives advice through resource persons on how
overseas Filipinos can improve their lives and livelihood by learning and
acquiring new skills and/or investing in business. Among the featured
guests in recent episodes include representatives from the Philippine
Franchising Association of the Philippines and the Professional Regulation
Commission.
Consul General Corazon Belmonte-Jover said, “the Consulate will
continue to update its radio program and present informative, useful, and
inspirational topics for the benefit of Filipinos in Hong Kong and Macau.”
The Philippine Consulate’s radio program segment gave another boost to
the DFA and the Philippine Foreign Service’s public diplomacy efforts.
In April 2004, the DFA launched its first ever radio program “DFA
Ngayon,” which aims to bring the work and services of the DFA closer to the
Filipino public through the conduct of public diplomacy. Ranking
officials of the DFA and other DFA partner agencies serve as resource
persons in the program. “DFA Ngayon” airs every Sunday from 9 to 10 in
morning over DWIZ-AM 882 kHz.
