ADOPT-A-CLASSROOM PROJECT GETS MORE DONORS

PHILIPPINE CONSULATE - NEWS RELEASE
24 February 2005

As of 24 February 2005, donations to the project have reached $ 41,134.00. The amount of $28,000. collected in 2004 were personally turned over by Consul General Cecilia B. Rebong to the Adopt-A-Classroom-Project Management Office at the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) last December 12 in Manila.

Towards the end of 2004 and the start of 2005, the Consulate General received more pledges and commitments. Most recent donors were the Philippine Chinese Association of America (Northeast) Inc. (PCAA), the Upsilon Sigma Phi Alumni Association, USA Northeast Chapter, the Association of Philippine Physicians in New York (APPNY), with the help of Philippine American Golf Association (PAGA), the Philippine-American Communities Executive Council (PACEC), De La Salle Univ. Alumni Association through Mr. Frank Cruz and Mr. Liberato Lavarino. With each classroom costing $ 4,000.00, the total donations can already build 9 classrooms – 4 in Inug-Ug, Pagalungan Maguindanao, and the Eastern Tagudinians Association, Inc. (for two classrooms in Tagudin, Ilocos Sur) 1 in Bulacan and 4 in still-to-be-identified areas in the Philippines. Two towns in Sulu province were supposed to be the beneficiaries of the four classrooms but the Consulate General was advised to identify other provinces in the Autonomous Region of Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) since there is no chapter of the Federation of Filipino Chinese Chamber of Commerce (FFCCC is a patron of DFA, DOLE and DepEd in the CGMA Project.)
