PHILIPPINES TO HOST OUTSOURCING CONFERENCE IN NEW YORK

PHILIPPINE CONSULATE - NEWS RELEASE
21 April 2005

New York, New York --- The Consulate General of the Philippines in New York and the Philippine American Chamber of Commerce (PACC) today announced that they will be hosting a half-day conference on outsourcing to the Philippines on Thursday, April 21 from 8:00 am -12:00 noon at the Philippine Consulate at 556 Fifth Avenue in Manhattan. The conference, entitled “Golden Opportunities in Outsourcing to the Philippines,” will be sponsored by two of the country’s preeminent corporations, Metropolitan Bank and Trust Company, the largest bank in the Philippines, and Philippine Long Distance Telephone Company, the country’s dominant provider of landline, wireless and internet services.

The conference will feature the head of the country’s Information and Communications Technology Commission, Virgilio Pena, and a Governor of its Board of Investments, Armin Raquel Santos. Also on the program are various experts on global sourcing including William Tannenbaum, the chairman of the Technology, Intellectual Property and Outsourcing Group at the distinguished law firm of Kaye, Scholer, Fierman, Hays & Handler, Dan Shimabuku, Managing Director of Hanson Advisors, Rose Montenegro, Senior Vice President of ePLDT’s Ventus Call Center Group, and Fred Kumetz, CEO of eData Services, a pioneer in the medical transcription business.

Also speaking at the conference will be Philippine Ambassador to the U.S. Albert del Rosario, New York Consul General Cecile Rebong and PACC President Alfred Madrid.

“Global sourcing is mutually beneficial to both the United States and the Philippines. It increases the level of economic activity in both countries. The conference provides a unique opportunity for American companies to learn about the solid potential of the Philippines as a global sourcing partner,” said Ambassador del Rosario.

The Philippines’ cultural affinity with the U.S., its English language proficiency and its high quality and cost competitive labor have made it one of the leaders in global sourcing. The Philippines is a unique player in such areas as call centers, medical transcription, litigation support, software development, animation, and back office operations including finance, accounting, human resources and data storage.

The Philippine American Chamber of Commerce (PACC) is one of the oldest bilateral trade associations in the U.S. and includes as its members many of the largest corporations in the U.S. A $50 fee will be charged at the conference for non-PACC members and $25 for PACC members.
