NY CONSULATE AND PHILTRADE DEPT TO HOST IT CONFERENCE

PHILIPPINE CONSULATE GENERAL - NEWS RELEASE
05 October 2005

New York, NEW YORK --- The Philippine Consulate General and Philippine Department of Trade and Industry will jointly host a business forum on “The Philippine IT Advantage” on 20 October 2005, 9:00 A.M., at the Kalayaan Hall, Philippine Center.

Consul General Cecilia Rebong said the business forum aims to present why the Philippines is popularly chosen by global companies as an attractive location for their information technology (IT) enabled services requirements, how the country’s human resources fill the increasing global demand for skilled communication and technology professionals, and what US clients have to say about their Philippine experience. Rebong added that the organizers have asked Ambassador Albert Del Rosario to give the welcome address.

Senior Undersecretary Thomas Aquino of the Department of Trade and Industry and key officers of the industry association on business process outsourcing will be the primary speakers. They will present the public-private partnership that is responsible for ensuring the continued viability of the Philippines as an e-services provider to the world. Firm-level presentations will follow, to be done by top executives of leading Philippine companies representing 7 categories of IT-related services, namely: contact centers, contact center solutions, business process outsourcing, transcription and publishing, process management, IT parks and real estate, and specialized IT services. Two US companies will share their experiences with service legal agreements and customer management in the Philippines. Before the business forum on the 20th, the Philippine companies will be participating in the OutsourceWorld NY Expo at the Metropolitan Pavilion from October 18 to 19.

After the business forum proper, arrangements will be made for one-on-one meetings with any of the Philippine companies and speakers.

Eugene Reyes of the Philippine Trade and Investment Center in New York described the upcoming conference as a “must-see event” for foreign companies on the look-out for low-cost yet quality offshore provider of e-services. Reyes added that “the conference is especially useful to companies that have always wanted to ask questions about the ICT advantages of the Philippines.”

Individuals or companies wishing to attend the business forum, or simply ask further questions about it, may contact the Philippine Consulate in New York at (212) 764-1330, ext. 603 or 601, or Philippine Trade and Investment Center in New York at (212) 575-7925.

Earlier in April of this year, the Philippine Consulate hosted another IT conference in cooperation with the Philippine American Chamber of Commerce. That conference attracted more than seventy (70) CEOs representing banking, insurance, and IT firms from all over the US.
