NaFFAA TO HELP DUAL CITIZENSHIP AND OVERSEAS ABSENTEE VOTING (OAV) REGISTRATION DRIVE OF NEW YORK CONSULATE

NEW YORK --- On various dates in October, the National Federation of Filipino American Associations (NaFFAA) will help in the Dual Citizenship and Overseas Absentee Voting Registration drive of the Philippine Consulate General in the states of New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Connecticut. The largest concentration of overseas Filipinos/Fil-Americans could be found in these four (4) states in Northeast USA.

NaFFAA is helping the Consulate General in the registration drive as part of its mandate to empower the Filipino-American community in the United States.

The Consulate General and NaFFAA have identified the following venues and dates for their joint dual-citizenship and overseas-absentee-voting-registration drive:

During the registration drives, a consular team will accept and process applications for dual citizenship and overseas absentee voting. The Philippine Commission on Elections (COMELEC) has extended the deadline for overseas absentee voting registration to 31 October 2006.

Dual citizenship applicants should bring the following documentary requirements:

1. Philippine Birth Certificate;
2. Previous Philippine Passport or old Voter’s ID;
3. U.S. Naturalization Certificate;
4. Valid US (foreign) passport; and
5. Duly-registered marriage certificate (for married female applicants).

Overseas absentee voting registrants, on the other hand, should bring their valid or previous Philippine passports and their green cards (if they are immigrants).

Interested parties who reside in any of the above areas are advised to get in touch with the contact persons for additional information.
