PHILIPPINE CONSULATE - NEWS RELEASE
01 March 2007

NEW YORK --- The Philippine Consulate General in New York offered a Thanksgiving Mass at the San Lorenzo Ruiz Chapel in Lower Manhattan on Sunday, February 25, to commemorate the 21st Anniversary of the First People Power (EDSA) Revolution. San Lorenzo Ruiz Chapel is the first officially designated church for the Filipino Apostolate by the Archdiocese of New York.

Father Erno Diaz, Director of the Archdiocesan Filipino Apostolate of New York, celebrated the mass which was attended by officials of the Consulate General namely, Consul Edgar Badajos, Vice Consul Elena Maningat, Finance Officer Milagros Agustines, and Administrative Officer Reynaldo Cardenas, and members of the Filipino community.

In his homily, Father Diaz noted that the EDSA Revolution of 1986 was unprecedented and that because of it, Filipinos were admired and respected by the international community of democratic, peace-loving nations. He added that the 21st anniversary of that fateful day is a time for introspection; a time to assess whether the gains of EDSA have been put into good use not only by our national leaders, but also by us in our individual capacities as members of Philippine society.

After the mass, Consul Badajos and the other consular officials joined Father Diaz in greeting and thanking the church-goers for joining in the 21st anniversary of the First People Power Revolution.
